Chris, a Wellington native, has been a consultant gastroenterologist since 2016. He trained in Wellington, Hamilton, and Auckland before completing a fellowship at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, UK, focusing on GI endoscopy, nutrition support, inflammatory bowel disease, and GI motility/functional gut disorders.
Chris practiced privately at Bowen Hospital for eight years before moving his practice to the Rutherford Clinic in Lower Hutt and Thorndon. He also works at Wellington Public Hospital.
Specializing in GI motility, particularly oesophageal, gastric, and small bowel disorders, Chris introduced New Zealand’s first EndoFlip service at Wellington Hospital. He was also one of the first clinicians globally to provide gastric electrical mapping (Alimetry) for suspected gastric motility disorders, contributing to research in this field. In 2023, he took a sabbatical to study SIBO management at leading centers in Calgary and Cedars-Sinai, Los Angeles.
Chris co-chairs the NZ Society of Gastroenterology's (NZSG) GI motility special interest group and has presented at its annual scientific meeting on GI motility management.
